Soul Motivators
The Soul Motivators are here to restore your faith in funk. A fresh take on a classic sound, they blend 1970’s funk and soul, psychedelic jams and hip-hop breaks. They’ve shared stages with greats like Grandmaster Flash, Afrika Bambaataa, Lee Fields, Bernie Worrell and electrified crowds at major events such as the TD Toronto Jazz Festival, The PanAm Games, Sunfest, and Festival d’Ete. Having celebrated their 10th anniversary in 2022, the band returns with a brand new album Do It Together (coming out March 24 on Do Right! Music) and cross-Canada tour dates.

Lydia Persaud brings a full spectrum of emotion to her latest album, Moody31. Shimmery runs fall alongside precise enunciations that slightly quiver on pitch. A singer with daring range, she stretches words - subtly melismatic, smooth, slantly gospel - to their full emotional capacity. Set for release in April 2022, her sophomore record remodels a multitude of influences into a dynamic and harmonious original. Described by producer Scott McCannell as “Roberta Flack sitting in with Bill Withers’ band at a folk festival,” Moody31 recombines jazz, R&B, and folk stylings to create soul music in its most literal sense

Born in Harwood, Ontario, Kyler Tapscott began playing the guitar at age 11. Adept at many styles, Kyler’s played alongside such musicians as Greg Keelor from Blue Rodeo, Americana roots vocalist Amanda Rheaume, folk singer-songwriter Pat Temple, and Jimmy Bowskill (from the Sheepdogs and Blue Rodeo) & The Hometown Beauts. No matter who he’s playing with, Kyler’s love of deep grooves, catchy phrases and hooks shine through his work, making him a key member of any band.

Each one a cherished memory locked in time, waiting to be brought down, dusted off and held in the hand of a storyteller intimately connected with the finer points of every detail. Caroline Marie Brooks is just such a storyteller. On Everything at the Same Time, the f irst solo outing from ⅓ of Canadian harmony trio Good Lovelies, Brooks walks you through a wall of stories, taking moments from her life down and carefully recounting the feeling of the sun and the wind in the trees from days past and present.

Cale Crowe
From the hills of Alderville First Nation in Ontario, Canada, Cale was fuelled by music since he could tie his shoes and has been taking audiences on a turbulent journey since he first picked up a guitar at 13. Cale himself describes the songs that make up “Stars & Promises”, his debut EP, and the sophomore EP “Til You Let Me Go”, as different stages of his own life, each telling a different chapter of the same story. Aside from the records, Cale’s unique performance uses little more than an acoustic guitar and a looping effect pedal and has given him the opportunity to perform across central and southern Ontario and outside the province from Nova Scotia to New Mexico.

Larnell Lewis is a Grammy Award winning musician, composer, producer, and educator. Based in Toronto, has established himself among the most diverse and
in-demand drummers in the world. Since 2012, Larnell has been playing with three time Grammy Award winning band, Snarky Puppy. Larnell leads successful ensembles of his own and has toured the globe with highly reputable contemporary musicians, including Quincy Jones, Laila Biali, Jeremy Ledbetter, Etienne Charles, Gregory Porter, Benny Golson, Lalah Hathaway, Jacob Collier, John Scofield, Pat Metheny, Lisa Fisher, Kurt Elling, Gary Burton, and more.
Internationally lauded artist Joy Lapps activates spaces for community building and creative expression. She aims to amplify women’s contributions in every facet of her work, giving nuanced attention to women of the steelband movement. To date, Joy has released five independent albums. Her repertoire teems with Afro-
Caribbean- and Afro-Brazilian-inspired rhythmic and harmonic patterns, garlands of melody and plenty of space for spontaneity, and a fondness for hit song forms and reimagined choirs emerges frequently in her compositions.

classically trained violinist who served as concertmaster for Havana’s Youth Orchestra. Magdelys Savigne hails from Santiago de Cuba and
graduated with honours in orchestral percussion from Havana’s University of the Arts. Both are also
Grammy-nominees for their contributions to Jane Bunnett and Maqueque, of which they are former members. Having recently worked with Bomba Estereo, Lido Pimienta and Bianca Gismonti, OKAN follows up on their Juno-nominated and Independent Music Award-winning debut album Sombras, with their JUNO Award-winning album
Espiral, out on the Lulaworld Records label.
Taking their name from the word for heart in the Afro-Cuban religion of Santeria, OKAN is a Juno-Award winning women-led ensemble that fuses Afro-Cuban roots with jazz, folk and global rhythms in songs about immigration, courage and love.
