We use ecological techniques to rejuvenate and build the soil, retain water, and deliver delicious organic produce to our customers and visitors. We also forage in our woodlands for wild edibles and medicinals. Many of our customers spend time on the farm helping us in the fields, visiting the animals, hanging out with Randy the beekeeper, cooking in our teaching kitchen, and attending special events like our outdoor concerts. We are delighted to bring our tasty offerings to Cultivate headed up by the talented cooking team of Tony Armstrong and Erin Bodashefsky.

Mixed within the annual beds are several pockets of emerging perennial forest gardens with several varieties of fruit trees and edible shrubs and herbaceous plants that will eventually grow into a multi-level natural forest of food.

Thirty Bench Winery

Thirty Bench Wine Makers

(All Weekend) The story of Thirty Bench Wine Makers begins about 450 million years ago. That’s when geologists believe the Niagara Escarpment began to take shape along the bed of a tropical sea. Over time, sediment was compressed into rock, a large portion of which was limestone and shale.

As these rocks weathered at different rates, unique landforms like the Beamsville Bench were created. Today, “the Bench” is a narrow plateau that slopes gradually from the cliff of the Niagara Escarpment. Its mineral-rich soils, unique topography and favourable airflow patterns have made it one of Niagara’s most coveted sub appellations for growing grapes.

Black's Distillery

(Friday) Every spirit tells a story – of that there is never any question in the business of distilling. Yet the narrative for Black’s Distillery extends its roots well beyond the confines of Peterborough County and the rolling hills where David Fife long ago coaxed his treasured grain from the ground.

In fact, owner Robert Black’s Scottish heritage links back to the Duhb (Duff) Clan, which actually connects to the town of Fife and the family itself. Take that as coincidence but best accept it as a vital connection. Upon learning of this relationship the Black’s name assumed its rightful place and is emblazoned on every bottle that we produce, day-in and day-out.
